Xtreme Measures Album Review
"XTREME MEASURES" DEBUT ALBUM - REVIEW:
"SCREAMING SYMPHONY" SHOW #249 3PBS 106.7FM
w/ Peter Fundeis and Gary Carson.
23:30 Tues July 13 2004
BRACKET INTRO:
Peter Fundeis: "...and we're gonna start it off with Melbourne's
very own "Xtreme Measures" we did have, a while ago, some
visitors of "Xtreme Measures" here in the studio and we
were talking about their gig from last December and the upcoming
album and this here is the upcoming album.
It's the introduction of the finished product: here on "Screaming
Symphony"."
PF: ""Xtreme Measures" is full of complex fusion
rock with some very intriguing musical moves.
The self-titled album is just over 47 minutes long and contains
9 songs which range from full-on rhythmic acrobatics a la "Planet
X", to some more rock orientated fusion, but also some more
atmospheric numbers are thrown in for a variety, which kind of border
on an instrumental, "Transatlantic", even, at times.
For a very young band, that has been playing covers for some time
along their original material, it is nice to see that they have
found their niche, even though it is very much like a "Derek
Sherinian" meets "Planet X". Nevertheless the album
has some fusion qualities, which will bring it into the electric
jazz territory and therefore makes the album accessible to those
who don't like their music too heavy.
The great news is that they are actually looking for a deal or some
kind of label at the moment, and I'm quite comfortable that they
might pull something on board, maybe even overseas with it.
But for those who are hungry here in Melbourne, "Radical
Records" has, actually, some copies for sale - so run on down
there. In the meantime............"
Gary Carson: "Oh, I was gonna say, and once the whole band
actually returns to Australia, they might actually play another
gig."
PF: "Yes, well, Dean is the only one who usually is always
away - is the only one at the moment in cold Melbourne and he enjoys
the...windy coldness. Anyway - the song that we're gonna play off
their self-titled "Xtreme Measures" album is called, "Illusion"."
BACKTRACKING:
GC: "...and "Xtreme Measures" from their self-titled
debut CD with a track "Illusion".
No doubt, as Peter said before, we'll get them into the studio
and we'll have a bit of an interview and hopefully they'll do a
gig when all the boys are back in town."
END.
